A little bit of resolve

I have found out in recent days, that resolve is a great thing to have. A fire that is lit under your arse can work wonders, motiviation wise. It really can. I won't say that it is completely driving me just yet, but the signs are definitely there, and that is very encouraging. I have seen examples of tests of resolve all my life, personally and all around me.

But (I was always told never to start a sentence with but,but its my blog and I'll but if I want to) one of the more recent examples of it was when I was on work placement and was in with a few lads as part of the course I was doing. The lads were sound, and I got talking to one about the usuals, the latest series of Mad Men and whose bottom did Don Draper inappropropriately look at,questionable U2 setlists,just trivial stuff like that. If anything, it passed the time. But there was something about him, that every so often, had me curious. He'd saunter in late, which I suppose he had the pull enough to do as he had been there years, and as I was a veritable babe in arms up there, so who was I to question it. During the course of the day, he'd pop in the headphones and say the same mantra over and over again,while looking at the same spreadsheet. I thought nothing of it at first, but after a while it just got more and more daunting to see what he was actually saying.

So, on my last day, he called me over.

"Paul, come here, I want you to hear this".

I said, finally, I am going to hear what this incessant chant was.

I put in the earphones...it was a faint murmur at first. Then it repeated more and more.

"You wont break me".
"You wont fucking break me".

Say it another 48 times and you more or less have it.

I was taken aback,admittedly. What the fuck is this craic? Then I suppose it dawned on me that not every working day there or anywhere is peaches and cream, and he used this as a form of motivation I suppose. Interesting to see how it can be used. Even naughty cuss words. Tsk.

So, yeah, resolve.
